[Generated Title]: Navy's Still Got It, Right? Or Are We Just Deluding Ourselves?
Okay, so Navy's got a bunch of sports teams, and they all did... stuff. Some won, some lost, some tied. Who cares? The real question is, are we, as a society, collectively lying to ourselves about Navy football?
The Myth of Navy Football
Let's be real, the only reason anyone outside of Annapolis pretends to care about Navy football is because of the whole "America's Team" vibe and the vaguely patriotic feels. But strip away the flyovers and the uniforms, and what are you left with? A team that's 7-1 but just got smacked by North Texas 31-17. A team that lost. To North Texas.
Don't get me wrong, 7-0 is a great record. But that one loss? It stings. And it always seems to happen, doesn't it? They build you up, make you think this is the year, and then BAM! Reality check. It's like waiting in line for the new iPhone, only to find out it's just the old one with a slightly better camera.
And Blake Horvath for the Heisman? Give me a break. Every year, some mid-major QB gets a hype train rolling, and every year, they crash and burn. Remember Doug Flutie? Yeah, exactly.
I saw some fans were stoked about voting for Blake Horvath for the Davey O’Brien QB Award. Good for them, I guess. Personally, I’m more excited about my pizza rolls being done.
Beyond the Gridiron: Apathy Abounds
Okay, fine, maybe I'm being too harsh on the football team. What about the rest of Navy athletics? Well, the women's rugby team got obliterated by Army 84-0. Ouch. That’s gotta leave a mark.

Sprint football beat Molloy 63-0. Is Molloy even a real school? I've never heard of it. Sounds like something I made up.
Men's rugby defeated No. 10 Penn State 36-7. Okay, that's actually pretty impressive. But does anyone care about men's rugby? Seriously, outside of a few alumni and the players' moms, who's paying attention?
And let's not even get started on intercollegiate sailing and offshore sailing. No offense to the sailors out there, but watching sailboats race is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
It's presented by This Week in Navy Sports Presented by Navy Federal Credit Union - Naval Academy Athletics, offcourse. Everything is sponsored these days, isn't it?
So, What's the Point?
Look, I get it. These are student-athletes representing their school and their country. That's admirable. But let's not pretend that Navy athletics is some kind of national obsession. It's a niche interest, at best. And the constant PR push to make it seem otherwise just feels... disingenuous.
Maybe I'm just jaded. Maybe I'm the one who's out of touch. But something about this whole thing just feels... off. Like we're all participating in some elaborate charade to convince ourselves that Navy sports are more important than they actually are. Am I crazy here?
